Hi!

I wouldn't mind covering everything A-Z regarding web page authoring, but I thought I should begin with explaining how I created my first web page. This may not seem like much, but it is at least for the sake of those who know very little about web page authoring.

I first learned about the internet a few years ago through the public library. The Greater New Orleans Free Net had teamed up with the public library to offer free internet access to the public. The librarian helped me to sign up. I gradually became accustomed to using the dumb terminals at the library to access the internet.

Eventually I got to know the people at the freenet. I had been calling them asking for technical advice. I was eager to go online with my organizational idea Ooasis. They were asking for a $75 yearly donation for 2 megs of web space. I thought that was really great and gave them $75. Later they let me come up to their office to do some volunteer work in exchange for a reduction on the yearly fee. I asked certain nonprofit organizations to sign up for their program. One of these was the "Mid City Green Project".

They had showed me how to set up the web page more or less. I still had many questions, but had to make due. They were letting me use their office computer to work on my web page. I was looking up things. Once I found some grant information that I turned over to Mid City Green and they were able to get that grant.

Anyway, I wanted to show you the first page I worked on and say a few things about it. The site is located at this address.:

If you take a look at this site I have an opening page with just a link to the rest of the site. I did not use a gif nor a gif for the background. The background is a color code. The reason I do not use very much in the way of gifs on this site is that it started out as a text based site and I thought I should try to keep it that way.

More recently I started rewriting this original site onto a WBS account. WBS allows you to transfer your files from another site. This is helpful with webtv since it does not have upload capacity. I was doing some work on it some weeks ago, but recently turned my attention elsewhere and so have not finished it. Another reason I put work off on it is due to the fact that WBS handles only so well with webtv. It is not all that easy to handle the files even to just delete them. The following is a link to that mirror site.

In conclusion you will find that the text based site is easier to access for slower computers, but with only webtv I am not able to access the file manager to update links and make other corrections and improvements. I am hoping to remedy this by working on the mirror site which is accessible with webtv.

Hope this has been of help to you somehow!

With best wishes from,

Christopher
